Tree & hedge planting
Tree and hedge planting in Bidford-on-Avon
The right tree in the right place, planted properly so it thrives. New hedges, screening, replacement trees and orchards.
Planting
We take trees down. We'd rather put them in.
A lot of the trees we fell were planted in the wrong place – a forest species in a small garden, a leylandii screen a metre from the house, a willow over a drain. Planting the right species, at the right size, with room to grow, saves a great deal of trouble and money in twenty years' time.
We advise on species for your soil, space and what you want from the tree – shade, screening, blossom, fruit, autumn colour or wildlife. We source good-quality stock from nurseries, plant it properly with stakes, ties and mulch, and tell you exactly how to look after it through its first summers.
We also plant replacement trees where the council has made replanting a condition of felling a protected tree, and new hedges of native mixed species, beech, hornbeam, yew or laurel.

How we work
How planting works
-
1
Advise
We look at the spot, the soil and what's nearby – drains, foundations, overhead lines – and suggest species and sizes that will suit.
-
2
Source
We order stock for the planting season. Bare-root trees and hedging are planted November to March; container-grown stock can go in most of the year.
-
3
Plant
Each tree goes into a properly prepared pit at the right depth, staked and tied, guarded if needed and mulched.
-
4
Aftercare
You get simple watering and care instructions. We can return to check ties and stakes, and to prune for shape as it establishes.
Doing it properly
Safety, permissions and waste
Planting rarely needs permission, but trees planted too close to a house, a drain or a boundary cause problems later. Some insurers and mortgage lenders care about tree-to-building distances. We'll steer you towards the right species and distance so it never becomes an issue.
If replanting is a condition of a TPO consent, the council will usually specify the species and size and give a deadline. We'll make sure the tree meets it. Pots, ties and packaging are taken away and recycled.

Planting questions
Can't find what you need? Give us a call – we're happy to talk it through.
November to March, while the tree is dormant, is ideal – especially for bare-root stock, which is cheaper and establishes well. Container-grown trees can be planted most of the year if they're watered properly.
Smaller than you think. A 1.5–2 metre tree establishes faster and often overtakes a bigger, more expensive specimen within a few years. Large trees are an option where instant impact matters.
It depends on the species and the soil. Clay soils and thirsty species like willow, poplar and oak need more distance. As a rough guide, keep small trees at least 5 metres away and large ones much further. We'll advise for your site.
Yes. We read the condition, source a tree that meets the species and size specified, plant it properly and give you the receipt and photos for the council.
It depends on the species, the size and the number of trees. A single garden tree is a small job; a 50-metre hedge or an orchard is a day's work plus the stock. We'll quote after a visit.
We give you clear instructions and can come back to check stakes and ties, water in a dry spell or prune for shape. Ask about a first-year aftercare visit when you book.
